Dr. Adelhem Meru 1998-2003 - Director General of VETA Dr. Meru took over from where Mr. Manyanga had left. In particular, he was the driving force in the development and implementation of VETA strategic Action Plan II (SAP II - 2000 - 2004) He succeeded (through the implementation of SAP II) in putting in place a framework for training system which will ensure training offered is demand driven. Mtwara Regional Vocational Training Centre was another achievement by Dr. Meru who was the driving force in getting support from the Japanes Government in the form of fully equipping the Centre. He also initiated and succeeded in getting support from ADB and subsequently from OPEC fund in financing the rehabilitation and expansion of existing vocational training centres. In the same spirit of expanding the capacity of vocational training, he initiated and developed Kigoma Regional Vocational Training Centre. Dr. Meru was also involved in the very preliminary stages of ECDF Project which was funded by the Government of Korea to Tanzania as a loan. The project has taken off year 2005 and three (3) vocational training centres will be built in Lindi, Manyara and Pwani at Regional level. A Centre of excellency in ICT will be in Dar es Salaam and Kigoma RVTSC will be fully equipped. During his leadership Dr. Meru maintained collaborations with Development Partners and local and International Stakeholders by conducting a number of local forums and international ones (e.g. IVETA - 2001 which was held in Dar es Salaam). |
