The Northern zone covers three administrative regions namely:- Arusha, Kilimanjaro and Tanga and has a population of 4,316,137. The Zone has two of the highest mountains in Africa, namely Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru and a series of mountain ranges, which have a high influence on the weather pattern. According to the National 2002 Population and Housing Census general report, the Northern Zone has a total population of 4,316,137 people. It borders the Indian Ocean to the East, Kenya Republic to the North, Mara, Shinyanga, and Manyara to the West and Dodoma, Morogoro and Coast region to the South. Of importance to note is the fact that the Northern Zone border with Kenya stretches over 860 km. VET PROVISION The Northern Zone up to December, 2005, has 154 vocational training centres together with six (6) Folk Development Centres which offer vocational training in different trade areas.
